TWR-South Africa in consultation with Mentorlink International developed a partnership whereby Mentorlink would provide training on the mentoring process and principles whilst TWR would identify trainee candidates in South Africa and develop the radio component.
The project envisions bringing together church leaders and pastors and introducing the servant-leadership concept that our Lord Jesus Christ taught and used.
The plan of the project is to train pastors and church leaders to develop emerging Christ-like leaders by following the Jesus-way of leadership development. This will be done by producing and airing radio programmes in different formats which communicate the vision and practice of Biblical mentoring. The goal is to develop networks of trained mentors who will lead mentoring movements in their respective communities and seek to expand those movements.
It was agreed that there is a great need for radio to help promote the mentoring process through 30-minute programmes. The content will involve teaching and dramatization. Phone-in programmes and discussions will also be featured.
From the nine provinces in South Africa only three provinces were targeted to represent both the urban and rural features existing in the country. Senior pastors and prominent individuals with an interest in leadership were invited to be participants.
TWR-SA hosted training meetings in February 2008. 23 pastors attended and were trained in the full Mentorlink programme. The process was passed on to the national steering committee which will then set up future Mentorlink National training meetings.
The need for prayer cannot be over-emphasised and prayer teams will be organised.
The way forward? TWR-SA will now focus on the radio component of Mentorlink whilst the Mentorlink Steering Committee will continue with national training and mentoring in South Africa in consultation with Mentorlink International.
