Dr. McGee began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967 after
accepting a call to the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles,
California. In the 1970's Dr. Paul Freed, then president of
Trans World Radio, met Dr. McGee and challenged him to take
Thru the Bible international. The challenge was accepted and
a long lasting partnership was formed.
Thru the Bible was first broadcast in African English from
Swaziland to an overwhelming response of more than 1 000 letters
per month. Soon French and Portuguese were added to the list
and it wasn't long until the programme was translated into
several African languages including Zulu and Chichewa.
Currently Thru the Bible has being translated into 18
languages for Africa. These are Afrikaans, Amharic, Chewa,
French, Malagasy, Hausa, Oromo, Pular, Portuguese, Shona,
Somali, Swahili, Tshwa, Yoruba, Zulu, Kirundi, Unbundu and
Africa English*. Plans are in place to add to the number
of languages over the next five years.
The format of the programme is simple. You can begin the
study at any time. When we have concluded Revelation, we will
start over again in Genesis, so if you are with us for five
years you will not miss any part of the Bible. It is like
a bus that goes over the same route. You can get on the bus
at the bus station or at any stop and make the round trip
without missing a thing. The Bible bus can be boarded at Exodus.
. .Job. . . Jude - and we will stop to let passengers on or
off. By staying on board you will benefit even more on the
second trip or even a third. The Old and New Testaments will
be intertwined.
