TWR broadcasts to the 2.8 million Lomwe-speaking people living in the Zambezi province in Mozambique. Mozambique is a vast country covering 48,000 square miles on the south-east coast of Africa. Most of this country consists of scrub bush with little or no infrastructure.
The Lomwe people are amongst the poorest in the world, most earning less than a dollar-a-day. They mostly live off the land, congregating in small villages. Health care and formal education is scarce in this part of the world.
It is to these people that the Words of Hope programme in the Lomwe language has made an incredible difference. In the space of 15 years many of the Lomwe have come to know Jesus Christ through the preaching of the Gospel by radio. More than 300 churches have been established in the province as a result of the broadcasts.
As the ministry expands so the need for training pastors and church leaders has become critical. TWR and its partners have established a theological education by extension programme using radio to meet this need. Until now radio programmes are being produced in a studio made from a shipping container. However, rapid growth of the ministry, the demand for more programming along with the possibility of establishing an FM radio station in the area some time in the future, means the ministry team in Mocuba will need more studios and equipment for producing and airing programmes.
Phase one of the project consists of building the studio near the town of Mocuba Mocuba and moving the existing equipment into the new building. The building will include two studios and control rooms, a reception area, meeting hall, kitchen, toilets and two offices. A wall will be built around the property to ensure safety and security.
Phase two will involve an upgrade to the studio equipment, additional office equipment, a phone PABX system for the studios and offices and computers to replace the ageing computers in the studios. Phase three will see a genset and a building for the genset installed and wiring installed to make the power system more reliable. Phase four, planed for sometime in the future will see an FM tower installed for broadcast on FM to Mocuba and the surrounding villages. Phase four, however, is dependent upon the issuing of an FM license for broadcast in Mocuba.
(Please note the amount of funding needed ($ 58,494.75) indicated above is for phase one only.) *********************************************************************************************
