Association of Christian Media Conference Inspires Christians Media to Claim Culture
TWR's Anthony Barkhuizen, the Broadcast Centre Manager at the TWR Africa Regional Office, recently attended the annual Association of Christian Media (ACM) conference that was held in June in Cape Town. The conference seeks to inspire and encourage Christian media workers in South Africa and the broader African continent.
"We as Christian media should set the tone and culture of society through our programming and media activities so that the Christian culture is assimilated as the prevailing culture of our times," said Anthony Barkhuizen.
The opening, plenary session, was hosted by Mark Manly, a well-known media personality in South Africa who spoke passionately and convincingly about being the change you want to see. Anthony summed it up when he said, "Change your thinking = change your doing = change you."
"A great time of fellowship and interaction was had with existing and potential media partners," said Anthony. "Our prayer is that these engagements will result in lasting fruit."
The ACM, of which TWR is a founding partner, is an organisation that inspires, serves, and supports new and existing Christian media in Southern Africa. They also assist Christian media organisations in day-to-day issues such as licensing and administration. The organisation is 20 years old.
One of the benefits of being a part of ACM is that they have a communications network and a bi-monthly newsletter with contributions from all the ACM members, which keeps Christian media connected and informed. There is a very active Facebook page with a wealth of information.
TWR Africa will continue to support the initiatives and endeavours of the ACM, and encourages Christians in media to join in as well. Rev. Danie du Preez of TWR South Africa has been elected to the board of directors of the ACM.
