Reaching Refugees

Posted in OLD The Archive

A girl who lived in a refugee camp in Tanzania for ten years recently visited the TWR Burundi office to express how she had been blessed by the good news through our programmes.

She said: "I used to listen to this programme from the refugee camp in Tanzania. It was a blessing, not only to me but to the other Burundian refugees in the camp because we could hear a programme in our mother tongue while we were away from the homeland. The messages in that programme caused me to change my life and surrender it to the Lord Jesus Christ. I am amazed at how, from this house, you are able to reach people thousands of miles away."

There are four useful pieces of information in this letter - our programmes reached the listener in crisis, they reached her within her cultural framework, they reached her with Christ, and lastly they reached her from another country! There are not many other means of outreach that can achieve all four of these at the same time other than radio!

So, TWR is even reaching into refugee camps with the gospel of Jesus Christ and the displaced are finding a home in the arms of God. All of us are born as spiritual orphans. Before we trust in Jesus, we know God only as Creator. After we trust in Jesus, God becomes our Father! Praise God for being a Father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5). Whether we are in a refugee camp or in a suburb, we need Jesus.

"Some very exciting news is that the studios in Burundi have been upgraded, improving and extending their reach! Praise God!"
